Acts 18 Gospel Centered In Corinth

Paul went into Corinth to plant a church. All the while he faces the crazy culture of Corinth. Throughout the process Paul stays centered on the gospel in the midst of much distraction. In this study we contrast Paul with David's 3 mightiest men to gain practical insight into how we too may stay gospel centered.

Jesus vs. Peanut Butter and Jelly Progressivism

The Athenians were hard-core progressivists who needed to hear that God is not served with human hands as though He needed anything, since He gives life, and breath, and everything to all things. In fact God even sets up boundaries for nations and appoints leaders over these nations so that the people might feel their way to God after they realize their progressivism is like spending your whole life figuring out how to make a better peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Acts 17 " Idols and Shiny Vampires"

Everywhere Paul went his preaching was so effective that it not only changed the lives of those who listened but it even changed the very culture around him. The reason for this is that he was effective in recognizing the idols of that culture and then would dialogue with the people, reasoning with them and proving their idols were worthless.

Identities: Disciples/Learners

We are disciples of Jesus who take responsibility for our own development and the development of others.
He learned from local religious teachers, by living in community, and through regular times of listening to God. Jesus called others to follow his ways, to be his disciples and live in obedience to all that God commands. He then sent these followers out to make new disciples. We believe we are also called to be followers of Jesus who take responsibility for our own development and the development of others. This includes both our personal time with God as well as involvement together in training provided by spiritual leadership. (Luke 2:52; Matthew 28:18-20; Ephesians 4:11-13; 2 Timothy 2:2)

Identities: Servants

Fully God–fully human, Jesus took on the posture of a servant. He gave his life, even unto death, so that others could experience salvation, peace and restoration. Jesus said, “I am among you as one who serves…” All those who follow Jesus are called to serve in the same humility. For us this means joyful submission to God and to each other, as we serve whomever God brings into our lives. We do Whatever needs doing, Whenever it’s needed and Wherever it leads us (W3). (Matthew 20:25-28; 25:31-46; John 13:1-17; Philippians 2:5-11; 1 Peter 2:16)

Identities: Missionaries

We are sent by God to restore all things to himself.
God sent his son, Jesus, to Earth to take on human form and live within the culture. He worked, ate and interacted among the people; living in such a way that those around him could see and experience what God was truly like. Jesus came so that all people, places and things could be restored to a right relationship with God. In the same way, we believe we are missionaries sent into our culture to restore all things to God through Jesus. We live this out as part of a missional community. (John 1:14; 20:21; Colossians 1:19; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21)

Identities: Gospel Family

Join with us as we begin to unpack the identities given to us as a redeemed people. Before we can know how to live out our faith in the rhythms of life we must know who we are. As we study through the book of Acts we see God's people walking in a new identity. He has become our god and we have become His people.

The theme of this chapter is "continuing in the work". Paul and Barnabas make their way through various trials but also experience various deliverance from the Lord in their first missionary journey. In this study we look at their method, the manifestations of power that accompanies them, or rather the diversity of those manifestations that accompany them, the diversity of the apostles experiences, and the perils that threatened them.

Building Block 2 Multiplication versus Addition

We don't have to come up with a new vision for the church because Jesus made it clear what we are to be about. We are to make disciples that make disciples, not of ourselves but disciples of King Jesus. We will look at Jesus life and ministry which is our example to follow as he scriptures reveal. Our mission: make disciples that make disciples. Our motivation: love for God, and love for people all to the glory of God. You cannot love God and not love His people. We will also discuss the difference between multiplication and addition.

Acts 3 Green Light

Peter and John had the green light to minister because they were men or preparation, humility, sensitivity, and purity. They were connected to Jesus and their only desire was to be used by the Lord. We too are created for connection with God but often times we need times of refreshing which comes from repentance as we try to connect with empty things instead of Jesus. The Holy Spirit relates to us in 3 ways. With us, in us, and upon us. This teaching explores these relationships we can have with the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2 Living In Reality

The early church was made up of people who had repented and our study shows us what they spent their time doing. They devoted themselves it tells us to the apostles doctrine and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and prayers. As a result fear and awe came upon them all. They were living for the Kingdom of God. Many believers are so frustrated because they are trying to apply the promises of God to a secular humanistic worldview. In other words...Jesus make my life look like Joel Olsteen's smile. Jesus does not promise us a smooth path of life but He does promise us the power to make it through while glorifying Him. The early church did not have a smooth path at all.

Acts 1 Just Like Jesus

The book of Acts is a continuation of Luke's gospel. In the book of Luke it is clear to us that the ministry of Jesus was entirely lived out by the empowering of the Holy Spirit. Then as we cruise into acts we will see the theme that this is our Lord's intention for us as well, that we will be filled and empowered by the Spirit just like Him.

Recognizing Jesus In The Ordinary

The theme of this passage is found in verse 1 or ch.21. "Jesus revealed Himself again to his disciples, and He revealed Himself in this way." In the previous chapter the guys were glad to see the Lord. They didn't go fishing to run away from Jesus. Jesus is revealing Himself in the ordinary things of life like going fishing. Oftentimes we only look for the Lord in the extraordinary and we don't recognize Him in a simple meal with simple people.

Experience Him Today

Jesus has risen from the dead and the Holy Spirit is actively making Jesus known to us in a personal relational way. We can only experience Jesus as we seek Him and make Him our priority and hunger. A more powerful word is to lust for Him. What are you lusting for today? Mary Magdalene was first to the tomb because Jesus was her priority. In turn Jesus made Mary His priority as she would be the first human being to see the risen Christ.

Jesus Dies For What?

Why did Jesus die? Did He have to die in order for us to be saved? How did He die? Could Jesus have just fallen out of heaven and landed on a cross and die and still accomplish the atonement? What does propitiation, penal substitutionary atonement, and expiation mean? Jesus loves me but could I say He has authority over my life? All these questions are answered in this teaching.

John 1:19-34. "Spirit Driven"

What leads your life? Maybe you're the thin-slicer type who makes decisions in the blink of an eye. Or maybe your the bean counter constantly sizing up the situation. As Christians we are called to be led by the Spirit of God. This in turn will cause you to be the unique individual God has created you to be, and such was the case of John the baptizer.
